 Your emails made a huge difference!!! Chairman Kirkpatrick and Assemblyman Claborn both mentioned getting 100-150 emails and that they were very impressed with that.  Just think what we could do if we could get 200 or 500 or 1,000 emails into the Legislature!  It’s not too late to contact the committee. AB67 Allows Counties to Raise Property Taxes Above Cap

Only the Nevada Association of Counties NACO testified in favor of the bill.  Apparently, all the other government people were afraid!  Assemblyman Bobzien mentioned the fact that there were no County Commissioners or their lobbyists there to support the bill publicly.

 AB 67 which would allow the counties to circumvent the property tax cap and circumvent the vote of the people was not well received by the Chairman and members of the Committee. Those testifying against the AB67 included citizens: John Wagner, Dennis Johnson, Bruce Kittess, Dave Schumann, Juanita Cox, and Janine Hansen.  A representative of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce also testified.  Everyone added a great deal to the hearing and gave voice to the concerns of the public. 

 In my testimony I included an interview with Gerald Celente http://www.trendsresearch.com/ the World’s number one Trends Forecaster. He has stated on several shows including Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck that a tax revolt is imminent. In one interview he states, “When I say it’s going to be worse than the Great Depression, we call it the Greatest Depression…Now people are on the edge…I have a saying: when people lose everything and they have nothing to lose, they lose it. You’re going to see people saying, off with their heads. There’s going to be another revolution in this county. It’s going to be a tax revolt.  We’re going to start seeing a tax revolt in the United States. People are one job away from losing everything. We’re seeing more and more closures, people are being laid off. People are stretched to the limits. And what do they do in New Your State? Some 130 new taxes are being proposed, they’re raising sales taxes. There’s going to be a tax revolt in the country from property taxes first and school taxes second. That’s what we’re going to see start to happen.”

AB67 Allows Counties to levy a separate property tax for public safety, health and welfare services by a 2/3rds vote of the Commission.  This new property tax is exempt from the current property tax cap. Currently, they can raise the property tax with a vote of the people.  The increase is not to exceed 10 cents per $100 of the assessed valuation. This is a new grant of power to the counties.

Message: Vote NO on AB67:  Do not allow the counties to raise property taxes above the cap or take away the right of the people to vote.
