The vote could be taken at the end of the hearing. We would like to have lots of people at the hearing to speak and just to sign in!
Please contact the Senators on the Committee the vote is not yet scheduled but could be as early as this Wednesday.
UPDATE:
Alert: OPPOSE SJR2* of the 2007 Session , updateThe hearing was testimony by one good old boy after another led by Senator Raggio and State Chief Justice Hardesty. Thank goodness for Senator Amodei who really put the Chief Justice through his paces asking many excellent questions. The bottom line is they do not want the people to vote for judges because the Judicial Selection Committee is much smarter than the people and far less messy than campaigns for judges. After all, its very taxing for judges to have to take time away from the “public duties” and run campaigns (answer to the people).
Only little people were there opposing it. John Wagner—Independent American Party, Lynn Chapman—Nevada Families, David Schumann—Nevada Committee for Full Statehood, Janine Hansen—Eagle Forum, Elko County Commissioner Warren Russell, and Juanita Clark via videoconference from Las Vegas.
Previously Senators Care, Weiner, Parks and Washington voted for SJR 2.
However, Senator Washington told us today, he has not made up his mind this time. Be sure to contact him and encourage him to vote No.
Senators Amodei and McGinness voted against it and stand strong still (thank them!).
Senator Copening is new and has not voted before. PLEASE be sure to contact her (politely)
MESSAGE: Vote NO on SJR2*, We don’t want our judges to be appointed. We want to vote on our judges for State Supreme Court and District Court!

SJR2*,
passed for the first time in 2007. It must pass the Legislature twice and then go to a vote of the people. SJR2 is a proposed Constitutional Amendment, which provides for the initial appointment instead of election of our Nevada Supreme Court and District Court Judges. SJR2* would provide for the initial appointment by the Governor of district court and Supreme Court justices from candidates recommended by the Commission on Judicial Selection. After the judges initial term, there then would be a ballot question asking the voters if they want to retain that particular judge with no opponent on the ballot. He would have to get only 55% of the vote each time he is on the ballot for approval. If he doesn’t get 55% the Governor appoints someone else. (It was lowered to 55% from 60% in the original proposal.)
Remember: The Federal Imperial Judiciary are all unelected.
They have brought us the decisions on the Ten Commandments, the Pledge of Allegiance and of course Roe v Wade. And don’t forget in Massachusetts the unelected judges forced same-sex marriage on the people and the Legislature, and in New Jersey they forced civil unions. We don’t want the Judiciary to be independent of the people!
SJR2* creates a closed shop and secures the appointment of judges by the good old boys network. No one who challenges the Powers that Be will ever be approved by their Judicial Selection Commission.
MESSAGE: Vote NO on SJR2*, We don’t want our judges to be appointed. We want to vote on our judges for Supreme Court and District Court!
