SJR2* Takes away our right to vote for our Judges on the Supreme Court and District Court and makes them appointed positions.

SJR2*, passed for the first time in 2007.  It must pass the Legislature twice and then go to a vote of the people. SJR2 is a proposed Constitutional Amendment, which provides for the initial appointment instead of election of our Nevada Supreme Court and District Court Judges. SJR2* would provide for the initial appointment by the Governor of district court and Supreme Court justices from candidates recommended by the Commission on Judicial Selection.  After the judges initial term, there then would be a ballot question asking the voters if they want to retain that particular judge with no opponent on the ballot. He would have to get only 55% of the vote each time he is on the ballot for approval. If he doesn’t get 55% the Governor appoints someone else. (It was lowered to 55% from 60% in the original proposal.)

Remember:  The Federal Imperial Judiciary are all unelected.  They have brought us the decisions on the Ten Commandments, the Pledge of Allegiance and of course Roe v Wade.  And don’t forget in Massachusetts the unelected judges forced same-sex marriage on the people and the Legislature, and in New Jersey they forced civil unions. We don’t want the Judiciary to be independent of the people!
