Support: AB159 Oppose Unfair Trade Agreements!
Hearing: Wednesday, April 1, 8am
Assembly Government Affairs Com. Rm. 3143,
Teleconferenced Las Vegas Grant Sawyer Building Rm. 4406
Copy of bill: http://www.leg.state.nv.us/75th2009/Bills/AB/AB159.pdf
AB159 prohibits the Governor or any other state officer or employee from binding the State to the requirements of an international trade agreement without authorization from the State Legislature. This bill also invalidates any prior consent to such agreements. This is necessary because certain international trade agreements, such as the Agreement on Government Procurement, obligate states and local governments without their consent to agreements on government purchasing. This often results in international corporations being favored above American businesses which create jobs for American workers. This issue has been well documented by Lou Dobbs on CNN.
Eagle Forum has long opposed international trade agreements such as GATT, NAFTA, and WTO, which destroy American sovereignty. These agreements favor international corporations to the detriment of American business and American workers. These agreements have resulted in shipping millions of American jobs overseas and the deindustrialization of America. These agreements which are promoted in the name of “free trade” are not “fair trade” and have placed American businesses and workers at a distinct disadvantage in the global scheme. More info and links below on this subject.
Message: Vote YES on AB159, Protect American jobs—Oppose unfair trade agreements.

Phyllis Schlafly the national President of Eagle Forum has written extensively on this subject. “Real conservatives will demand a level playing field by rejecting the attacks on our sovereignty by the World Trade Organization, which has ruled against us 40 out of 47 times and now is punishing us for our law against internet gambling because it interferes with free trade in recreational services. Real conservatives will reject the trade agreements that allow foreign countries to pretend to reduce their tariffs on our goods but substitute an equivalent border tax called the VAT (Value Added Tax) that discriminates against U.S. products. Real conservatives will reject the trade agreements that allow foreign countries to subsidize their exports to the U.S. by rebating their domestic taxes, while U.S. companies pay very high corporate taxes. Real conservatives will reject a trade agreement that binds us to admit Mexican trucks to all our roads even though their trucks and drivers do not meet the safety requirements of U.S. trucks and drivers.” http://www.eagleforum.org/psr/2008/nov08/psrnov08.html Go to www.eagleforum.org & search trade agreements for more information. http://www.eagleforum.org/column/2007/july07/07-07-04.html
